It was a special day for Lea Schenck, Suwannee varsity softball pitcher. Schenck signed a full scholarship for Okaloosa-Walton to play softball and get an education. Schenck was signed as a pitcher and second baseman.

Softball coach Jeff Smith was proud of Schenck. “It’s something she’s worked hard for,” Smith said. “I’ve coached her longer than my daughter, eight or nine years. I’ve seen her improve into one of the top players to come out of Suwannee County.”

Schenck said she sent Okaloosa-Walton softball coach Heather Wolbers, a video of her pitching and hitting. Then she tried out and they liked what they saw.

At Suwannee High Schenck had a win-loss record of 43-20, pitched 387.2 innings with 455 strikeouts over her career. She gave up 43 earned runs and had an ERA of .73. Schenck’s batting average was .312 this year and had a GPA of 3.77.

“I’m glad I’ve been a part of her career,” Smith said. “She’s a great ball player. It’s neat to see where they’ve come from and where they’re going. She gets to play softball and get an education at the same time.”
