Jimmie Sparrow, Sr.

Jimmie Sparrow, Sr. 84, a retired well driller passed away on June 13, 2006. Mr. Sparrow was born in Mayo, and moved to Marion County from Safety Harbor in 1963. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) before joining the Army Air Corps, serving during WWII as a Medic on the 509th Composit Group – the first atomic bombardment.

Mr. Sparrow was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Swilley Sparrow. Survivors include: sister, Eunice Wood, Live Oak; daughters, Rebecca Sue Stone, Cincinnati, OH, Rose Mary Newman, Ocala, Ethel Mae Coker, Ocala; son, Jimmie Sparrow, Jr., Reddick, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A Memorial service was held at the home of Jimmie Sparrow, Jr., Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 1 p.m.
