Live Oak 12-year old Stacy McClelland has taken her talents to the Gold. McClelland is a pitcher and a first baseman for the Gainesville Gold travel team. The Gold recently took home the National Softball Association state title in Bartow. McClelland’s teammates gave her the MVP award for the championship game in Bartow.

The Gold 12 and under team has been racking up a lot of awards this summer. The team won the state USFA championships in Jacksonville in June this summer as well as placing second in the International Softball Association championships in West Palm. The coaches voted McClelland MVP in West Palm.

Looking for a better venue for their daughter’s talents, the McClellands took Stacy to Gainesville to try out for the Gold.

“My daughter had to fight and work hard to play on this team,” dad Billy McClelland said. “You try out for this team. These girls earn their position.”

Billy McClelland said Stacy’s bat has really pulled her up in recent games.

The Gold will be traveling farther than usual at the end of July. They are off to the softball World Series in Ohio.

“We make that hike down to Gainesville twice a week,” Billy McClelland said. “But it’s been worth it. They’re an awesome bunch of girls.”
