Willie H. Haas, 95, went to be with her Lord, September 24, 2006 at her home in McAlpin. She was the beloved wife and homemaker for Fred E. Haas who preceded her in death. Mrs. Haas was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, McAlpin. She was a long time Sunday School teacher; on the executive committee of the Suwannee Missionary Baptist Association, and faithfully attended every service at her home church.
Mrs. Haas taught school for several years after her own schooling, for over fifty years; she was a 4-H Club leader and was recognized as the Florida 4-H volunteer of the year. She was one of the first 100 enrolled in the 4-H Hall of Fame, as a member of the Suwannee County Historical Society, she helped create and maintain the Suwannee County Museum. Among her awards for community service was the Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce Trailblazer Award in 2002; the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 1986 and the Kiwanis Club Service Award in 1963.
She is survived by four daughters and two sons: Fredna (Art) Carter, Seffner, Cookie (Mark) Coyle, Sopchoppy, Buddy (Sandra) Haas, McAlpin, Susan Cordle, Live Oak; Glenda (Terry) McDonald, Havanna and John (Janis) Haas, Douglas, Ga. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, and a sister Mamie Ross of Live Oak. She was preceded in death by a brother Arnet Hillhouse and a sister, Virginia Irene Cannon.
Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Daniels Funeral Home in Live Oak.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 28, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
