Volleyball team snaps six-match losing streak

The Bulldog volleyball team snapped a six-match losing streak with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-18 win over Taylor County Sept. 26 in Live Oak. The Bulldogs improve to 3-10 on the season.
“It was good to win and I hope the girls will build on it,” said coach Cissy Witt. “We have a good chance to win most of our remaining matches if we play our best.”
Natalie Pecina led the Dogs with 16 service points. Brittany Barclay and Cortney Benson each had 11, Jasmine Jefferson had four, Rebecca Roberts three, and Dominique Reed and Casey Owens, two each.
Pecina led in aces with eight. Benson had six, Barclay four, Roberts two, and Jefferson, Reed and Owens, one each.
Jefferson, Pecina and Reed had four kills each. Barclay had two.
Owens had an assist.
Dogs lose to Lafayette
The Bulldogs fell to Lafayette County in volleyball 14-25, 19-25, 24-26 Sept. 28 in Live Oak.
Jasmine Jefferson, a standout hitter, passer and blocker, missed the match due to illness. “No one stepped up to get the team going” in Jefferson’s absence, said coach Cissy Witt.
Dominique Reed led the Dogs with 10 service points. Brittany Barclay had five, Cortney Benson four, Rebecca Roberts and Chelsea Jones three each, and Natalie Pecina two.
Reed led in aces with eight. Benson had three, Roberts two, and Pecina one.
Barclay had six kills, Jones two, and Deana McMillian one.
Pecina and Reed had two assists each and Roberts had one.
Barclay had a block.
