Mattie Ruth Johnson Rivers
Mattie Ruth Johnson Rivers, 84, of Quitman died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at the Brooks County Hospital in Quitman. She was born on Oct. 11, 1922, in Cook County to the late Austin and Vallye Folsom Johnson and had been a resident of the Presbyterian Home in Quitman for several years. Mrs. Rivers was a Methodist and a retired hotel receptionist.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Courtney Easters of Quitman; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Ellis and Lois Johnson of LaQuinta, Calif. and Katherine Johnson of Orlando, Fla.; her former son-in-law and his wife, Joey and Brenda Easters of Quitman; two stepgranddaughters, Mary Herzog and Rachel Herzog. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Rivers, and a daughter, Patricia Ann Easters.

Nathaniel Clifford Whited
Nathaniel Clifford Whited, 62, of Quitman, passed away Monday evening, Dec. 11, 2006, in Augusta after a lengthy illness. He was born on Feb. 28, 1944, to Dorothy Petty Whited and the late Nathaniel Whited. He lived in the Quitman area for the past 25 years and worked for Microcraft for the past five years. Mr. Whited was a member of the United States Air Force and the First Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Whited of Quitman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Jake Terry, Valdosta, Audrey and Don Manac, DuPont, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Cathy Maine, Nashville; five grandchildren, Neil Terry, Eric Wilkes, Shane Manac, Brandon Manac and Stephanie Maine; brothers, David and Jan Whited, San Diego, Calif., Dennis and Peggy Whited, Seattle, Wash.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, in the First Assembly of God with Pastor Bill Cotterial and Pastor Joseph Brown officiating. Hosie Berrian Jr., age 61, passed this life Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Lowndes County, Ga., to the late Hosie Berrian Sr. and the late Lucille Hall Berrian on Oct. 2, 1945. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; five brothers, Frank Berrian, Edward Berrian, Sherman Berrian, Nathaniel Berrian, Calvin Berrian; two sisters, Maxine Berrian, Carla Berrian.
He leaves to lament his homegoing his children, Miranda Berrian, Michelle Brown (Daryl), Latonya Berrian (Flazelle), Antoinette Berrian, Shannon Berrian, Shavon Berrian, Valerie Sider (Tim), Marissa Jones (Ben), Adriane Johnson (Johnny), Annette Brown; 13 grandchildren, Javereus, Jarvis, Javon, Brandon, Sakia, Tahrae, Aaron, Marcus, Matthew Jr., Tyler, Jordon, Shonteny, Elton; one brother, Robert Berrian (Patricia); three sisters, Hanna L. Sidney Felder Jr.
Sidney Felder Jr. was born to Thelma Patton and Sidney Felder Sr. on Aug. 21, 1942, in Blinton, Miss. He was Pentecostal by faith and was a member of Evangel Temple Church under the leadership of Pastor Henry E. Wright. He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Felder Sr. and wife Gloria A. Felder.
He leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Demetrius Small; a loving daughter-in-law, Wanda Small, both of Valdosta; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Demetrius, Christopher, Stephanie, Ricky and William, all of Valdosta and Cynthia of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one great grandson DaShawn of Valdosta; a loving mother-in-law, Louise Small; father-in-law, Othello Moore; sweet grandmother-in-law, Pearl McLaughlin; special sisters-in-law, Cynthia Sell (Ron), Wanda Lyn (the late Phillip Lyn), Olivia Edwards (Bruce), all of Valdosta; brothers-in-law, Cedric Small of Valdosta, Hymi Small (Mary), Alaska, the late Eric (Tracy) Small and Ricky Small; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special friend Ethel Mosley.

Maxine Harris
Maxine Harris, 78, of Valdosta died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on Dec. 1, 1928, in Echols County to the late Eddie and Annie Clyde Green Hughes and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Harris was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Linda and Larry Lynch of Perry, Ga., Lamar and Betsy Harris of Lenox, Leonard and Pat Harris of Madison, Fla. and Lynne Futch of Valdosta; grandchildren and their spouses, John Lynch of Perry, Ga., Robert Lynch of Vero Beach, Fla., Brent and Carrie Harris of Tallahassee, Fla., Ben Harris of Atlanta, Toni McDonald of Tallahassee, Fla., Beth and Brad White of Atlanta; a great-granddaughter, Autumn Paige Harris of Tallahassee, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Eddie Merle and Mary Frances Hughes of Lake Park; two sisters, Gwynette Sandlin of Lake Park and Sadie Hughes of Orange Park, Fla. Martha Hogan
Martha Hogan was born Jan. 31, 1947, and on Dec. 12, 2006, God saw that she was getting tired and called her home. Martha was born to Laura Neesmith and the late Esco Johnson. She was a graduate of Pinevale High. Martha was a longtime employee of Bathcraft and Sermons Quick Food Store. She was married to Earnest Hogan Jr. for 32 years. She was a lifelong member of St. James Baptist Church and she was also a faithful member on the Deaconess board.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband, Earnest Hogan Jr.; two loving and devoted children, Reginald Harris (Sabrina) and Keshier Hogan, Both of Valdosta. She was the world’s greatest grandmother to Reginald Harris Jr., Kelaysha D. Singleton, Joseph Jones III, all of Valdosta and Dahlia Harris of West Palm Beach, Fla.; mother, Laura Neesmith of Valdosta; three sisters, Betty Thomas, Winona Sharp, Patricia Smith, Valdosta; two brothers, Charles Edwards (Valerie), Atlanta, Lee Neesmith (Pansy), Dayton, Ohio; a loving and devoted nephew Dexter Mills (III), West Palm Beach, Fla.; a loving and devoted niece Darlene Denard Page (James), Valdosta; best friends for life Geraldine Duncan, and Dolly Stewart, both of Valdosta, and the Sermons Family of Hahira; a loving and devoted friend as a son Rickey (Red) Giddens; and leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. William David Morris
William David Morris, 61, of Valdosta died at his home on Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, after a lengthy illness. He was born on Jan. 11, 1945, in Talladega, Ala. Mr. Morris worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections in the Food Service Department. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam, and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Michael David and Sherry Morris of Moultrie, Joshua Dale Morris of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, April Dawn and Duane Utter of Valdosta; seven grandchildren; mother, Ollie Louise Harris of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; brothers, Claude Morris and John Morris both of Hartselle, Ala., Billy Mac Morris of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sister, JoAnn Reese of Montgomery, Ala.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Ann Morris and his father, William D. Morris.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Arthur G. Nelson
Arthur G. Nelson, 87, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006 at Magnolia Manor Methodist Nursing Center in Americus, Ga. He was born on Oct. 8, 1919, in Brooks County to the late Edgar Earl and Maggie Laura Wilcox Nelson. Mr. Nelson was a railroad track foreman with Southern Railway and was a paratrooper in the United States Army.
He is survived by one daughter, Ann Key of Smithville, Ga.; two granddaughters, Donna Schubert and Christy Patrick; seven great-grandchildren, Al Schubert, Laura Schubert, John Schubert, Matthew Schubert, Molly Schubert, Taylor Patrick and Brittany Patrick; four sisters, Irene Dunn of Live Oak, Fla., Florine McGee of Gainesville, Fla., Betty Mae Williams and Louise Harnage of Valdosta. Mr. Nelson is predeceased by his wife, Ruby Lee Nelson, one sister, Bernice Holt, two brothers, Earl Nelson and J. B. Nelson.

Carter and Josie Bell Robinson.
