Rant and Rave for Wednesday, January 10, 2007

Thanks to Dr. Mink’s office. I pass by on the way to work every morning and your sign keeps me laughing. Good job.
Rave to Ms. Phyllis and all the city of Valdosta employees who helped Mr. George get off the streets and into a comfortable living situation. It is nice to know people still do care.
To the young man in the red Jeep type vehicle tailgating us on Gornto Sunday night, all you had to do was change lanes. We were the only ones on the street and were going the speed limit. I’m taking tag numbers, descriptions and calling law enforcement until they finally pay attention to this problem. Somebody please join me.
With dog attacks happening so many places in the United States, I cannot understand why people in the city do not obey leash laws. In Eager subdivision there are always dogs running around. And if you call animal control, you do not hear back from them. Does some child have to be bitten before something is done about this?
To the person going south on Patterson in front of VSU about 10:30 on Monday morning: You were speeding and did not stop at the cross-walk when a female student was almost halfway across. I was stopped at the cross-walk and watched you come within inches of hitting her. She was in the right. You were in the wrong. This could have been a fatal accident. Slow down, people.
Illegal immigration has become very profitable to many greedy Americans. It’s a taxpayer-subsidized form of slavery. Just about under every rock, there’s someone making money off illegal aliens.
I would like to thank the individuals who stopped on Highway 84 on New Year’s Eve to save our cat who was hit by another car. He is doing just fine.
I would like to say what a beautiful Christmas program George Mason and the channel choir of the First Presbyterian Church presented on Dec. 10.
To the person complaining about the so-called loud music in Laurel Wood Estates in Hahira: I live there right by the entrance and I have never been awakened by music. I believe you just want something to complain about. Our community is very quiet and if you don’t believe me, I will make sure to crank music all night long. Then maybe you will appreciate the peacefulness that we currently have.
The Laurel Wood Estates rant for yesterday is right on. Not only do we have to contend with loud music, but also loud vehicles going in and out all day long. They must have found cheap gas somewhere because I sure can’t afford to drive that much.
Most of the college kids left home without even knowing how (or having to learn) to make a bed, much keep a house clean. Remember that mommy and daddy are paying the rent and bills for most of them so they have no motivation to be neat.
Rejoice, Valdostans. You are officially in a “Metro” city now. Not convinced yet? Experience the traffic and potholes on Jerry Jones and you will have no doubt.
Those of us lucky enough to live on Long Pond value its quiet serenity. If you or your guests are guilty of shooting fireworks off in the wee hours or carrying on spirited conversations, we ask that you remember how far sound carries over the water. In the last few months, our sleep has been disrupted by such activities. Please don’t make us call the Sheriff. Be considerate.
