The Democrat omitted information from the obituary of George L. Knight in its March 23, 2007 edition. The corrected obituary follows. The Democrat regrets the error.



George L. Knight

George L. Knight, 84 of Live Oak, FL passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, FL following a lengthy illness. The Lake Butler, FL native moved to Live Oak in 1949 from Lake City, Fl. He was a Constable for the city of Live Oak in the early 1960’s and served on the Suwannee County School Board for eight years. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #1165. He owned and operated Knight’s Pump Supply for 16 years. He was very proud of his wonderful family and loved to hear his children sing.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Knight of Live Oak; one son, Daniel Knight, Logansville, Ga; three daughters, Deborah Hunt, Tallahassee, FL; Georgelle Huggins, Lake City, FL and Donice Dawson, Naples, FL; one sister, Donna Lee Dobbs, Silver Springs, FL; eight Grandchildren and seven Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 23, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in the Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Barineau officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery.

Irene V. Bayless

Irene V. Bayless, 89, of McAlpin, Florida, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2007 following a long illness. She was born March 21, 1918 in Largo, Florida. Bayless retired from the Town of Largo as secretary with 30 years of employment. She moved to the McAlpin, Florida area in 1970 and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Live Oak, Florida. Bayless was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bayless, one sister, Mary Pipkins and two brothers, James and Irvin Trotter.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Briggs; two sisters, Ruby R. Ritchison and Myrtice R. Trotter, all of McAlpin, Florida; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 27 in First United Methodist Church of Live Oak, Florida with the Rev. Jim Wade officiating. Interment followed in New Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery.

James Howard Ross

James Howard Ross Sr., 87, of Live Oak, Florida, passed away Friday, March 23, 2007. He was born July 15, 1919 in Suwannee County. Ross was a 1938 graduate of Suwannee High School. He was a farmer and a carpenter before beginning a career with the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy and then the Florida Highway Patrol for 23 years followed by 12 years with the Florida Department of Health.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Doris Ward Ross, daughter, Ann Barcia of Fort White, sons, James H. Ross Jr. of Tallahassee, Florida and Joseph Ross of Perry, Florida; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., March 26 in Luraville Baptist Church. Interment followed in church cemetery with a brief graveside service.

Stella M. Plymel

Stella M. Plymel, 88, of Jasper, Florida, passed away, Saturday, March 24, 2007 in North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida following a brief illness. The Hamilton County, Florida native retired from the local sewing factory and attended Jennings Church of God. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Duncan and three grandchildren, Lamar, Chelsea and Michael.

Survivors include one son, R.N. Duncan of Satsuma, Florida; one daughter, Doris Elaine Hammond of Jasper, Florida; a step-brother, Jim Bell of Jasper, Florida; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 26 in Harvest Fellowship Church with Pastor Jerry Thomason, the Rev. Cynthia Mosley and the Rev. Edgar Woods officiating. Interment followed in Hebron Cemetery.

Hazel Rogers Collins

Hazel Rogers Collins, 92, of Live Oak, Florida, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007 in Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida following a short illness. She was born Aug. 11, 1914 in Wake County, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late George W. and Novella Saunders Rogers. She and her family moved to Live Oak in 1936. A longtime employee of Gibbs Company and Sharples Department Stores, Collins also served for more than 10 years as a teaching assistant at Suwannee Elementary School.

A talented gardener, Collins was an active, charter member of Community Presbyterian Church, where she served for many years as the flower chairman.

She was preceded in death by her husband Staff Sgt. Ernest Collins who was killed in battle in the European Theater in World War II.

Survivors include a brothers, Banks Rogers (Sarah) of Fitzgerald, Georgia; nieces, Lynda Knight (Jim) of Gainesville, Florida, Lavonne Pickens (Bill) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Mona Howard (Ken) of Newborn, Georgia, Jeri Coop (Archie) of O’Brien, Florida, Shirley Bunting (Tom) of Murphreesboro, Tennessee, and Karen Collins of O’Brien, Florida; and nephews, Richard Rogers (Becky) of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Lynn Rogers (Kelly) of Tallahassee, Florida, David Rogers (Hardie) of Havanna, Florida, Harold Collins (Wylene) of Ocala, Florida, Bill Collins (Gail) of O’Brien, Florida and Bob Collins (Patty) of O’Brien, Florida. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Rogers.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 27 in Community Presbyterian Church in Live Oak, Florida. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Community Presbyterian Church, 830 Pinewood St., Live Oak, FL 32064.

Camilla L. Leahy

Camilla L. Leahy, 66, of Live Oak, Florida, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007 in Shands at Jacksonville. She served as a waitress for many years. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and faithful customers she served.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce (Lee) Fullbright; son, Tom Leahy; grandsons, Matt, Josh and Jaben Fullbright, all of Live Oak, Florida; sisters, Georgia (George) Yates of Gainesville, Florida and Emma Jean Jenkins of Live Oak, Florida; brother, Sonny (Barbara) Lawson of Live Oak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 29 in Pine Grove United Methodist Church.



Lisa Law

Lisa Law, 40, of Wellborn, Florida, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2007. She was born in Germany and moved to Wellborn, Florida from Fort Lauderdale, Florida five years ago, was a homemaker and was of Baptist faith.

Survivors include her parents, Dean and Ora Law of Wellborn, Florida; one son, Kyle Carey Haynes of Wellborn, Florida; two brothers, Douglas Dean Law of Macclenny, Florida and Danny Wright of Round Rock, Texas; and one grandchild, Anthony Estep of Lake City, Florida.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, March 30 in Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Wellborn with the Rev. Bobby Law officiating. Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. at the church.
