A grand jury will be convened in the drowning of a 2-year-old boy who wandered from his home and fell into a pond April 12.
Bryson Scott Lee Crews disappeared from his 89th Road home while in the care of his grandfather, Terry Dudley, according to Suwannee County Sheriff’s reports. He was found 10-15 minutes later floating face down in a pond, said Chief Deputy Ron Colvin. Crews was transported to Shands AGH in Gainesville where he died two days later.
Assistant State’s Attorney Ernie Page, who will present the case to the grand jury June 27, declined to identify the focus of the probe or to specify what charges may be brought. “The grand jury will have several choices presented to them,” Page said. “They may decide this was just a terrible accident.”
Shooting incident to be heard by panel
The grand jury will also review the facts of a Jan. 13 shooting which left a 17-year-old Suwannee High junior dead.
Matthew Welsh was at a friend’s house and the two began to engage in horseplay, said authorities. A .22 caliber rifle, which the friend said he did not believe was loaded, discharged, striking Welsh in the head.
Page expects to present both cases the same day. “We’ll have one in the morning session and one in the afternoon,” he said.
