Taking care of business

A new crop of businesses is rising from the ground in Mayo. Evidence of this can be seen next door to Family Dollar and near the Jiffy Store on US Hwy 27.

Already, construction workers are building a small Subway restaurant next to Family Dollar. According to Mayo Town Hall, this is the first franchise that is not family owned to open its doors in Lafayette County. Cheryl Hollis, Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce member, added that it has taken approximately two years to bring Subway to Mayo.

Drummond Community Bank, based in Chiefland with branches in Trenton, Old Town, Cross City, and Cedar Key, is also planning to open for business in the community. Chan Perry will serve as area president of the Mayo branch along with Casey Phelps, as assistant bank manager.

Perry, an active member of Mayo Rotary, is very excited about the opportunity of bringing Drummond Community Bank to Mayo. “We at Drummond Community Bank are looking forward to the opportunity to serve Lafayette County and surrounding areas. The future of our success is dependant upon the service we provide for each customer that walks through our door. Our goal is to greet you with a smile and allow your banking experience to be as easy and peaceful as possible,” Perry said.

Both businesses are expecting to be open for business this fall. Be sure to watch the Free Press for updates on these new Mayo businesses.
