Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007

I recently found out from my 7-year-old son that Sallas Mahone has mice and snakes inside the school. This is ridiculous and something must be done. I don’t want my son or anyone else’s child subjected to the issues that mice bring. Valdosta City Schools have to do something now.

The nosy rubberneckers that can’t seem to drive past a wreck and get out of the way, may be the next one to wreck because they are looking back instead of ahead.

Why is everyone in such a hurry? Can’t you leave earlier? It causes road rage and wrecks to ride bumpers.

People in Valdosta are horrible drivers, for the most part. I think high school football gets way too much attention.

To the public-address system operator at Cleveland Field: Prior to Wildcat games, please tone down the decibels. The music you are playing at the threshold of pain makes it impossible to converse with someone seated next to you. A lot of us come early to watch the teams warm up and don’t appreciate being subjected to such loud noise.

What is the deal with gas prices? We have gas stations within sight of each other. One is 11 cents higher than the other. While in Jacksonville over the weekend, I find gas cheaper than in Valdosta. I thought that was impossible to begin with. Gas was also less in Lake Park.

I think the judge made the right decision by appointing Regions. How long will it take them to find someone to appoint receivership to and get the project back up and going? This whole mess has caused a large impact on not only the military families but our community.

Why did Lowndes Middle School offer an open house to incoming sixth graders? As a parent, I found it offensive to see the teachers congregated in the hall with their classroom doors locked. It was crowded and loud. The message was very clear that these particular teachers on this team did not want to have their time taken up by parents. I hope they feel the same way when they need donations or support later in the year. How rude.

Great job by the 4 V’s: Valdosta, Vikings, Valwood and Valdosta State. No points scored against any of them. I guess the person who wants to go to Warner Robins wants both teams to score.

As a VSU student, I would like to thank Dr. Zaccari and the VSU administration for the traffic lights on Patterson Street. Some may think of them as a hassle, but I see them as a life-saver. Thanks Dr. Z.

Making the city and county more attractive starts with individuals caring for their properties and seeking to have pride in the entire community. The tacky billboard issue is a “must handle.” Others could start by not parking cars and business vehicles all over their front lawns. These and similar eyesores, belong in back yards, when possible. How about it LochWinn?

Go Valdosta, Lowndes and Valwood. Talk about Winnersville.

Since Valdosta is now a “destination city,” perhaps you should warn some of your “open-minded” readers what that means. If more people move here, we might have to build more houses. Some might be Jewish, Catholic, Mexican or (gasp!) Yankees. They might like different food and bring their “outsider ways” here.
