Students at Suwannee Elementary School participated in a Star Card fundraiser recently. The Star Card is a fundraiser in which cards that offer discounts at area business are sold by students, with the full amount of the each sale going to the school. To honor the students who participated in the fundraiser, an ice cream party was held on Oct. 17 in the school’s cafeteria. Students who sold at least one card were invited to the ice cream party. Students who sold at least eight cards received a Flying Ninja toy, and students who sold at least ten cards were given the opportunity to shoot their Flying Ninja towards a target for a prize.
Then it was time for the pig race. There were seven lucky students who sold more than fifteen cards each, and they participated. These lucky seven were: Lindsey Allen from Mrs. Tedder’s class, Joshua Carter from Mrs. Philpot’s class, Elexxis Davis from Mrs. Johnson’s class, Blake Tedder from Mrs. Tedder’s class, Destiny Warren from Mrs. McIntosh’s class, Frederick Williams from Mrs. Hahn’s class, and Mary Young from Mrs. Jonas’ class. Each of these students was given a mechanical camouflage-print pig a few days before the race and asked to decorate it for the event. The owner of the fastest pig won the race, and so Destiny Warren was allowed to pick three prizes from the treasure chest. Coming in second and winning two prizes was Elexxis Davis. Rounding out the winners in the number three spot was Blake Tedder, who won one prize.
Congratulations were also extended to Mrs. Tedder’s class for selling the most cards and to Mrs. Johnson’s class for coming in a close second.
