Rant and Rave for Friday, Dec. 28, 2007

VSU getting their own stadium is a joke. No one supports them until homecoming or they make the playoffs. I have been to many home games and I bet there is less than 2,000 people at the game and that’s visitors/fans combined.

Please educate yourself before you post a rant/rave. The U.S. national average ER wait time is 3.5-4 hours. SGMC’s is a little over two hours. Be thankful you have an above-and-beyond hospital like SGMC to go to.

I would like to send out a rave to Andrea at Metabolic Research Center in Valdosta, she helped me boost my morale and self-esteem. Her high-spirited, bubbly attitude is contagious and it is a true pleasure going there to speak with her. She is a true professional who truly loves her job. It is a rare quality.

You’re all complaining that the Blazers don’t have their own stadium, yet in order to build one they would have to up your taxes in order to afford it. Congrats and all but I for one don’t feel like coughing up that kind of money.

You had an article in the paper a couple days ago about a better Wild Adventures. How can it be better when they randomly change their published hours because they don’t have enough people in the park? They just shut it down on Wednesday three hours earlier then their published time. The old owners would not have done that.

To the person who stole my granddaughter’s penguin within a month’s time: Santa Claus bought her another one early and I hope you have a Merry Christmas.

Since we will be hosting a parade for Lowndes High School football and VSU, would it be possible to include J.D. Drew and the Red Sox World Series Trophy?

Cleveland Field is to high school football what Notre Dame stadium is to college. They are the winningest high school football team in the country. VHS has played on that block since 1922. Why should they sell that stadium? VSU needs to raise the money to build their own facility and at a location that can be expanded for future growth.

I find it rather bold of carpetbaggers from the north telling those of us who have called Valdosta home for many years: If you want diversity, go up I-75 to the Atlanta airport. As the late Lewis Grizzard used to say, Delta is ready when you are.

Before the hockey dispute erupts into another “Yankee go home” fest, I have a great suggestion: Why doesn’t some daring investor open an ice rink? It would be packed during the humid days (most of the year) and a small hockey league could even start. By the way, I am from the west, and ice rinks do very well there.

The Sam’s cola machine at Wal-Mart used to only be 25 cents a soda. Can anyone tell me why it jumped up to 40 cents over night? Heck, you can get a Pepsi for 50 cents. Man I miss the old days!

The new Cook High School is being built on the worst possible location. There were sites that were much better and would cost less in the long run. Shame on you, Cook County BOE!
