The Alapaha Area Council Boy Scouts of America hosted a Duty to Country Breakfast recently at Valwood School as a fund-raiser and a celebration of 98 years of Scouting.
Eighty people attended the breakfast, representing many local businesses. Scouts from Pack 499 and Troop 415 greeted guests and performed the opening flag ceremony.
The featured speaker was Valdosta State University Head Football Coach David Dean. Coach Dean spoke about the parallels between the discipline, dedication, and personal goals needed to be a winning football player and a successful Boy Scout.
The breakfast raised more than $25,000 to support the programs of the Alapaha Area Council in 2008.
