Town buying land from church

The Branford Town Council is in the process of buying land from the Presbyterian Church of Branford. Layne Schultetus, representing the church, spoke to the council at its regularly scheduled meeting April 8 about the sale of the land.
Schultetus said the church wanted to give the town first opportunity to buy the land. The land, which is directly across from the fire department and the church, consists of eight city lots with a house sitting on three of the lots.
The land will be sold to the town for $69,000.
Town Attorney Kevin Daly drafted a letter of intent to buy the property and the sale was approved recently by the Presbyterian Church. Contracts have been drawn up and the transaction is in process.
The town hopes to use the house for future office space and the land possibly as a new home for the fire department.
“Even if the house was not there it would be a good deal,” Council President Joe Cannon said.
“This is excellent for the city, they are getting a very nice piece of property,” said Schultetus.
The site was previously used as the parsonage for the Presbyterian Church of Branford.
