Edward “Ed” Charles Palmer, Jr, 59, of Athens, Ga. passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008.
Mr. Palmer was born August 10, 1948 to Catherine Elizabeth Durnin and the late Edward Charles Palmer, Sr in Milford, Connecticut. Ed attended the University of Florida and graduated from Florida International University with an undergraduate degree in Political Science. He attended law school at the University of Miami, and received his JD in 1977. He served in the Army as a Sergeant from July 1968 until December 1971.
On November 27, 1981, Ed married Carol G. Vignes in Miami, Florida. The two share a daughter, Laurel Leigh Palmer, a student at the University of Georgia. In 1989, the family moved from Miami to Athens, Ga. Ed worked as a Safety, Health, and Environmental Regulatory Consultant with Lamb Group, LLC.
Ed was known as an avid reader and race car enthusiast. He enjoyed working on cars, observing races, and racing Formula V cars. His interests also included history, especially events surrounding the Civil War, and a variety of sports. He and his family share a love of animals. He was a member of the Florida Bar Association, Georgia Z Club, and Sports Car Club of America. He served on the Board of Trustees for the Florida National Parks and Monuments Association, Inc., which allowed him to participate in environmental consortiums across the United States. Ed enjoyed and celebrated his life and deeply loved his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, and family man who enriched the lives of everyone around him.
Ed is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Laurel and sisters, Karen (David) West and Nancy Palmer.
Ed wishes were to have his ashes placed in a special location in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Memorials may be made to the Florida National Parks and Monuments Association, Inc. or Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
