A quiet Fourth for police

No fatalities or major violence were reported here during the Fourth of July weekend, which was welcome news for local law enforcement.

“It was wonderful to have a holiday weekend that did not end in tragedy,” Sheriff Tony Cameron said. “We had a great holiday weekend here in Suwannee County.”

As many as 2,000 people attended the Branford River Reunion Friday.

Det. Sgt. Ron Shaw of the Live Oak Police Department said the only incident reported was of celebratory gunfire from a brother and sister.

“We didn’t have anything major other than the one incident of discharging of firearms for celebration,” Shaw said.

LOPD Chief Buddy Williams noted that additional officers had been deployed for the Fourth. Luckily they weren’t needed.

“It is nice to return from a long weekend with no one getting seriously injured or killed,” he said.
