Frances Scott Brydone Worstall, 100, of Valdosta, died at Presbyterian Home in Quitman on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, after a period of declining health. Mrs. Worstall was born in Milverton, Ontario, Canada, to the late John and Robina Dickson Brydone. She graduated from the University of Toronto and later earned her Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York. She spent most of her life as a teacher and began her career in Canada and then in the United States at colleges in Troy, N.Y., Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Staten Island, N.Y., before coming to Valdosta in 1961. She taught at Valdosta High School for six years before leaving to teach at, and eventually retire from, Valdosta State College. Mrs. Worstall was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Valdosta, the Sallie Lou Cranford Bible class, the Retired Teachers Association, the American Association of University Women, the Literary Guild and the SGMC Volunteer Auxiliary (Pink Ladies).

Mrs. Worstall was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Worstall, three sisters Agnes Brydone, Jan Collier and Robina Jack; and one nephew, John Collier. She is survived by a sister, Joan Allan; seven nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and nephews; and four great-great nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Worstall will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Buck (Dawes) Thomson will officiate. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening.
