Four suspects arrested after a home invasion and kidnapping have been indicted for multiple crimes that range from armed robbery to aggravated assault.
Gary Allen Hillegass, 24, Amanda Joyce Cosgrove, 24, Andrew Christopher Holt, 22, and Matthew Lowell Black, 37, were indicted by a grand jury in Lowndes County Superior Court for their alleged involvement in a home invasion and two armed robberies.
According to reports from the District Attorney’s office, Hillegass, Cosgrove and Holt face conviction on burglary, attempt to commit armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping and five counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Cosgrove was also indicted on four counts of making false statements in reference to the home invasion.
For their involvement in the armed robberies, Cosgrove, Holt and Black were indicted on aggravated assault, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping and five counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Black also faces conviction on two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred the morning of June 2 when two males invaded a residence at Camelot apartments on Northside Drive. One female was taken by force from the home by an offender, while the other offender stayed with the two remaining victims and demanded money. The abducted victim was driven to a location near Howell and Perimeter roads and released unharmed, according to Valdosta police. A passing motorist picked her up and transported her to a convenience store at the intersection of Park Avenue and Perimeter Road, where she called the police. Valdosta police and South Georgia Medical Center personnel were dispatched to the store. From there, the victim informed emergency units of the other victims and directed them to the residence, according to reports.
Upon arrival at the apartment, police found the victims unharmed. The two informed police that they had been forced to go get money for the offender. Authorities chose not to release the name of the facility where the money was withdrawn. The victims were checked out by SGMC personnel but did not need to be transported to the hospital.
Further investigation revealed that at least one of the offenders was known to at least one of the victims. From information gathered from the victims, authorities were able to locate a vehicle that matched the description of the offenders’ vehicle at a residence in the 700 block of Lakeland Avenue. A brief investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, Andrew Christopher Holt and Gary Allen Hillegass. However, authorities soon learned that the investigation was far from complete.
Upon interviewing the suspects and victims, police discovered that one of the supposed victims, Amanda Joyce Cosgrove, actually helped set up the home invasion and kidnapping. Further investigation and numerous searches revealed that Cosgrove and Holt, along with Matthew Lowell Black, were involved in other crimes that include the April 23 armed robbery of Domino’s Pizza on Northside Drive and the May 15 armed robbery of Bank of Valdosta on Woodrow Wilson Drive. Detectives also confirmed that Black is a parole absconder from the state of Florida.
