HOMERVILLE — The Huxford Genealogy Society announces a genetic genealogy conference to be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Jan. 24, City Municipal Complex, Homerville. The speaker will be Bennett Greenspan, founder and president of Family Tree DNA.

This conference will be an opportunity to learn more about the process of obtaining a DNA test, what results can be expected and actually taking a genetic swab (no needles or blood are required for a genetic genealogy test.)

DNA kits will be available for purchase during the conference, and assistance will be provided to complete the DNA swab. Kits will also be available if you need one or more kits for other family members who are not in attendance. The description of the tests available, and the prices for a test kit and the test are listed on the Huxford Web site. The prices available to Huxford/Wiregrass Georgia DNA Project participants are substantially lower than retail.

The conference will be open to anyone who wishes to attend and will not be limited to the Huxford membership; however, members will be given the first opportunity to register for this event. After this initial announcement, registration will be on a first-come basis. So, call the library at (912) 487-2310 to register for this conference. If you already know you want to obtain a genetic genealogy test, you can order your test now so that you will have test results available before the conference.

You can order a genetic test online by visiting the Huxford Web site at www.huxford.com, clicking on Seminar Schedule, going to Genetic Genealogy Seminar and following the links.

Deadline for registration is Dec. 1. Fees for the conference are $20, members of the Huxford Genealogy Society; $25, non-members. Checks should be made to the society and sent to Huxford Genealogical Society Inc., P.O. Box 595, Homerville, Ga. 31634.
