An accident involving a Suwannee County school bus Tuesday sent a Live Oak man to the hospital with minor injuries. No students were aboard the bus at the time of the crash.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a 1997 GMC van failed to stop at the intersection of CR 252 and 137 at around 6:55 a.m. The van was struck on the right side by a 2004 school bus, driven by 51-year-old Chinneta Faye Butler of Wellborn.
The van overturned once and came to a final rest on CR 137. The bus stopped on the shoulder of CR 252.
The driver of the van, Sergio Hernandez, 17, of Live Oak fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later by a sheriff’s deputy, reports show.
A passenger, Alfonzo Meudez, 24, also of Live Oak was taken to Lake City Medical Center for minor injuries, according to the report.
Butler was not hurt.
Charges were filed against Hernandez for violation of right of way, no valid driver’s license and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
All three were wearing safety belts, according to the report.
