In the immortal words of perhaps the most famous woman with one name (Cher), ” … laady dotty de, laady dotty dye …). By the time you read this we will have a new football national champion. Don’t tell my cousin Vinny’s team, the Utah Utes, they think they already won it. More and more, playoffs sound like they are needed more than the BCS. We emphasize the B and the S. The SEC had a great bowl season and we will give Alabama a break. Didn’t they lose to an undefeated team? Go Gators!
The NFL playoffs continue. The Eagles and the Giants are the only two teams left that are ranked in the top 10 in offense and defense. The playoffs have lead to the firing of at least two coaches, Denver and the Jets, who should have made it but didn’t. The Lions and Cardinals are simply horrible. The Dolphins, Ravens and Falcons all went to the playoffs with first year never-head-coached-in-the-NFL head coaches. Sounds like the wave of the future, don’t bank on it. Next year will see at least two of those four positions being filled by former coaches. Chemistry is a big part of team efforts. Just ask the Dallas didn’t-make-the-playoffs Cowboys. T.O. has put the “I” back in team. The Super Bowl is the only football game left for February. If January had 32 days we could have gotten the 2008 football season done only one month into 2009.
The search for Suwannee’s head coach continues. The rumors say over 70 applicants from around the country and many familiar names from the North Florida-South Georgia area. Hopefully a decision will be made in the next few weeks.
The administration is also looking to see if the FHSAA will let us move to another district. Our new district gives us as many runs to Jax as the mail truck. In the meantime, former head coach Tommy Chambers is proceeding with the football awards banquet — something our last coach walked away from. An effort will be made to sell more season tickets this year but until then, there are still a few soccer games left, basketball is in season and baseball is right around the corner. Support your local athletics. Put our kids on the field and off the streets.
