The GFWC Live Oak Woman’s Club has joined in efforts with the Suwannee County Regional Library and The Big Read. This year the big read is The Maltese Falcon (http://us.mc01g.mail.yahoo.com/books/maltesefalcon/).

Library Director Danny Hales and Youth Services Manager Marlene Mitchell were at the January meeting of the GFWC Live Oak Woman’s Club to tell the ladies about the upcoming events. Thursday, Feb. 5, kicks off the series of events featuring The Maltese Falcon. The Big Read Kick-Off Party starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Live Oak Library Meeting Room. There will music and dancing from the 1930’s. Kathleen Johnson, a professional dance instructor will demonstrate dance steps. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. Books and Readers Guides will be distributed. The Maltese Falcon will be on display, keep your eyes open for a clue. The mystery begins!

Various events will take place all over town and you can participate and get credit for your organization. Copies of the book will be placed at different locations and clues will be placed as well. Can you solve the mystery? If you or your club would like to participate in the BIG READ or you would like a calendar of events, go to or call the Suwannee River Regional Library or go to www.neabigread.org/events.php.
