In accordance with state regulations, the City of Valdosta has reported a sewer overflow that occurred on Feb. 19, 2009, at approximately 1 p.m., at the Boys Club Pump Station, located at 3658 Lake Laurie Road.

Wastewater from a manhole adjacent to this station entered Waters of the State. The stream affected by the short duration of overflow is an unnamed tributary to Cherry Creek. The City estimates a discharge of approximately 500 gallons. The City responded with vacuum trucks and collection system crews to clean and disinfect the area affected by the overflow.

The Utilities Department is currently planning for the reorganization of all divisions within the department to provide improved maintenance and operations of its water, sewer and storm water systems later this year. The department has also initiated planning for step by step implementation of a system-wide SCADA plan which will provide real time, remote monitoring and control capabilities for all aspects of facility operations.
