HAHIRA — Husband and wife team Fred and Kay Smith recently introduced a new service in Hahira that is sure to be in tune with all of its customers’ automotive needs.

Located at 407 W. Main St. is Hahira Automotive Service. It is a family owned and operated business with over 20 years of experience.

“We opened the shop because we live here, and we’re from here. Our kids go to school here, and we definitely enjoy the people,” said Kay Smith. “We love Hahira, and when we say that, we truly mean it.”

The Smiths have children at Hahira Elementary School and in the Georgia Bridgemen band.

Aside from that, Fred Smith said, “I was tired of people being taken control of and thought this would be the best way to handle that by opening up a shop and controlling it myself.”

Rooted in the community and striving to provide excellence, Hahira Automotive Service provides a variety of services and offers extended warranties from dealerships.

“Just call and ask about our joint warranties with dealerships, and we’ll see what we can do,” said Fred Smith.

Hahira Automotive Service’s waiting room boasts comfortable seating and a television with satellite service to help entertain children as well as adults. It offers tire services for cars, tractors, golf carts, four wheelers, and more.

Kay Smith said with a smile, “If you can get it up here, we can work on it.”

As for the Hahira community, the Smiths added that they have been welcomed with open arms.

“They (THE community residents) have been very helpful and welcoming,” Kay Smith said, “considering this was an existing business and we bought it from the man who originally opened it.”

Fred Smith is ranked among an elite grouping of World Class Technicians — having completed the GM Service Technical College training program — and has also earned Automotive Service Excellence Master Technician status. He explained that these achievements are equivalent to a doctorate degree, just in the automotive industry.

Q: What are your hours of operation?



A: We are open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.



Q: What are your prices?



A: It depends on the amount of work needed, but a customer can call at anytime for pricing.



Q: How many technicians does your staff consist of?



A: We have a staff of four right now, but we’re certainly looking to expand that.



Q:What services do you offer? Do you offer towing services?



A: We perform any service needed, including oil changes, tire alignments and rotations, and so on. The only thing we don’t perform is body work. We do perform towing services for customers within a five-mile radius of the shop. We take emergency calls off the Interstate.



Q: Do you work by appointments only or are walk-ins accepted?



A: We try to work by appointment, but we do take walk-ins.



Q: How long do services usually take?



A: It generally takes 30 minutes for an oil change and tire alignment. If it’s extended services, we let them leave their car. We definitely try to go over and beyond.
