Live Oak Police Chief Buddy Williams wants residents to be aware of a phone scam in which the caller, who claims to be associated with LOPD, asks for donations.
“The LOPD has never resorted to phone solicitation,” said Williams. “We never will solicit over the phone for any purposes.”
Williams said he is being “bombarded” with calls from concerned residents. One resident even said the caller talked about the department’s annual Policeman’s Ball to try and prove he was with the police department.
Williams said the number that shows on caller identification is 904-861-1583 and asks residents to ignore the call if received.
