VALDOSTA — Most every other summer, Valdosta couple David L. Scott and Kay W. Scott travel across America. Prior to their journey, the Scotts prepare maps, make reservations, schedule a timetable of stops.

And every other spring, their findings are compiled and published in a new edition of the Scotts’ “The Complete Guide to the National Park Lodges.”

The sixth edition of the “Lodge” book was released earlier this year. It contains the details, information and knowledge that regular readers of these volumes have come to expect, as well as the entertaining and informative side stories which readers have come to enjoy.

Each new edition seems to present the Scotts’ adventures and insights in even more readable and enjoyable formats. This latest edition is no exception. It is compiled in a state-by-state format which should easily answer any questions that readers may have about a given national park lodge. Like past editions, this one is published by Globe Pequot Press, Guilford, Conn.

The Scotts use their summer-break trips to complete an odyssey across America, visiting national parks and national park lodges throughout the United States.

At each stop, they collect information about the parks and the lodges, interview employees, detail the living conditions and the surrounding topography and climate.

Upon completing these journeys, the Scotts return to Valdosta and the more sedate portions of their lives. He is a former professor of finance at Valdosta State University and the author of dozens of books. She is a retired educator from a local school system. At home, the Scotts begin compiling the information they have gathered from their summer journey.

The Scotts developed the concept for the travel series of books based upon their shared love of travel and his earlier passion for camping.

In the past, they have told the story of how she agreed to marry him and go camping with him if he compromised from a tent to purchasing a camper. In the early years of their marriage, they traveled the country in an old Volkswagen mini-bus.

They have traveled up to 11,000 miles through 26 states to prepare for the “Lodges” book. Their expertise on traveling the nation’s parks and their books have earned them a guest spot on NBC’s “Today” show, offering park tips in a live broadcast from Yellowstone National Park and Grand Canyon National Park.

David Scott is also the author of numerous other books, including more than two dozen volumes on finance and investment. He also co-authored a book of Elvis Presley trivia.

Also released this year is his “American Heritage Dictionary of Business Terms.” For this volume, David Scott brings his 32 years of teaching finance to bear as well as his accumulated knowledge in preparing his other books on finance.
