VALDOSTA — The Lowndes High Georgia Bridgemen won top honors at the Southern Showcase Marching Band Invitational in Dothan, Ala., on Saturday.

This was the Georgia Bridgemen’s second competition win for the season. They took the Best in Class 4A Division and the highest score overall for the contest. The percussion won the Best in Class award, with drum majors, colorguard, danceline and band winning superior ratings.

Jon Bowman, Lowndes director of bands, said, “We are so happy for out band students. We had some very stiff competition at this contest with bands from Foley and Enterprise, Ala. Our students have worked to perform their show flawlessly while still entertaining the crowd. To receive a standing ovation from their peers is a tremendous compliment.”

The annual fund-raiser for Dothan High and Northview High bands had 21 bands performing from Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

In addition to exhibition performances from both host bands, the Troy State University band performed at the end of the evening to a packed house.

On Oct. 24, the LHS Georgia Bridgemen will host their own competition with high school bands from throughout Georgia and Florida competing in the 5th Annual Battle on the Border. Several bands performing include Valdosta High School, Berrien High School and Colquitt County High School.

The Georgia Bridgemen will perform an exhibition program at 3:30 p.m. with the finals performances to start at 7 p.m. The VSU Blazin’ Brigade will perform at 9 p.m. before the presentation of awards.

“If you’re a fan of half-time performances, you’ll love this event. Come join us,” said Bowman.
