Rock fans were treated to a rare treat Saturday night when two of the most popular rock bands of 70’s and 80’s, Styx and REO Speedwagon, performed for the biggest crowd of the year so far at Wild Adventures.

Styx took the stage around 7 p.m. and fans rushed to the stage, standing there the entire evening.

The band performed several of their biggest hits such as “The Grand Illusion,” “Boat on a River,” “Blue Collar Man,” “Borrowed Time” and “Miss America.”

They also performed two of their most popular hits, “Come Sail Away” and “Renegade,” which brought even more of the crowd to their feet.

The only disappointing part of the Styx performance was the fact that they didn’t perform one of their most popular songs, “Mr. Roboto.”

REO Speedwagon took the stage shortly after Styx, opening up the show with “Don’t Let Him Go” and “Keep On Loving You.”

Instead of keeping their biggest hits for the end of the show like most artists, REO Speedwagon kept the crowd on their feet the entire show, tossing in classic favorites such as “Take it on the Run” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling.”

REO Speedwagon lead singer, Kevin Cronin, talked to the audience in between songs, discussing their early years at the University of Illinois to their most current tour.

Cronin also pointed out that many of their original fans, now grown with families of their own, brought their children out to enjoy the show and they planned to keep it rated PG for that reason.

The group ended their show with their other hits, “Roll With the Changes” and “Ridin’ the Storm Out.”

Both Styx and REO Speedwagon made the fans feel as if they were a part of the show, passing out goodies from guitar picks to backpacks during different points of the show.

The Wild Adventures concert season continues on Saturday, May 8 when country diva Wynonna Judd takes the stage at 8 p.m.
