A father and son are charged in the Thursday morning shooting death of a Valdostan.
About 1:25 am, authorities were dispatched to a business known as The House, 500 S. Patterson St., in reference to shots fired.
The Valdosta Police Department, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and South Georgia Medical Center’s Mobile Health Care Services arrived at the scene to find a male victim lying in a vacant lot just south of the business.
Xzayvia Calloway, 27, received multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson said.
“Witnesses stated that an argument broke out inside the business between the victim and two other men,” said Valdosta Police Capt. Bobbi McGraw. “It is believed that the three men knew each other. The argument continued outside of the business between the men, and that’s where the shooting occurred. One witness stated the victim was traveling by foot south from the business when he was shot. The two suspects left the scene in a Ford Crown Victoria.”
McGraw said that authorities were asked to be on the lookout for the vehicle and the suspects. Later, the vehicle was spotted in the area of Jones and Magnolia streets and pulled over by a Lowndes County sheriff’s deputy. The two suspects were taken into custody.
A gun believed to be involved in the shooting was recovered by Valdosta police detectives in the area of the traffic stop.
Cleveland Fulton Jr., 17, of Valdosta is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to police. His father, Cleveland Fulton Sr., 40, of Valdosta is charged with aggravated assault and tampering with evidence, police reported.
“We appreciate the assistance of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department in the apprehension of the two suspects,” McGraw said.
This case remains under investigation, and police have not ruled out filing additional charges in the near future and/or charging additional persons.
