The Valdosta State women’s basketball team received 24 points in a poll of Gulf South Conference East Division coaches, and was tabbed the preseason pick to win the GSC East.

Just behind VSU was North Alabama, with 22 points, followed by West Florida, West Alabama, West Georgia and Alabama-Huntsville.

 The Lady Blazers were recognized individually as well. Brittany Daniels was named to the GSC East preseason team, along with 2009-10 All-GSC performers Candace Lee of Alabama-Huntsville, Niala Harris of North Alabama and Latashia Greer of West Alabama. Jessica Young of West Florida and West Georgia’s Thomassian Wyatt also made the list.

 Lady Blazers Brittany Ferguson and Vaneza Junior also were tabbed with 10 others as the GSC East’s top newcomers.

 All three players with preseason recognition joined the rest of the team in the first practices of the season Friday.

 VSU fans will get to see the team for the first time this season on Nov. 13 at The Complex against Edward Waters.
