The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating 18 home burglaries in the county, all of which have occurred in the last month.
SCSO Chief Deputy Ron Colvin said in all cases that no one was home during the burglaries in which a door is kicked in to gain entry.
“We figured those responsible would go knock on the door and if no answer they would kick the door in,” Colvin said.
He said it’s not yet known how many suspects are involved but authorities have their sights set on at least one individual.
“We got our eyes on somebody who may lead us to a small group,” he said.
Colvin said flat-screen televisions and guns seem to be the thieves’ main targets.
“There has been some jewelry and coins stolen,” he said. “They just go in, get what they want and come out.”
The burglaries began Oct. 4 and have continued through Nov. 1.
Targeted homes roughly circle the city of Live Oak. Colvin said they stretch from CR 136 to Garrison Road to Nobles Ferry Road near 129th Road.
All the burglaries occurred during the day when folks are generally away.
“If you’re home be vigilant of your neighbor’s property,” said Colvin. “If you see anything remotely suspicious, call the proper, local authorities.”
