Scott lifts Blazers over Delta at buzzer

Valdosta State scored seven points in the final 14 seconds of the ball game as the Blazers defeated Delta State 68-67 in non-conference men’s basketball action Tuesday evening.

Delta State (5-5) grabbed the lead with a 9-0 run that gave the Statesmen a 67-61 lead with less than a minute to play to set up the final dramatic seconds. After a missed free throw by DSU’s Marqueys Brown, Martrez Scott pulled VSU (8-2) to within four points with a lay-up before Brown missed two more free throws. Tristan Steele promptly connected on a three with eight seconds to go and, after a VSU timeout, Scott stole the in-bounds pass and called another timeout. Out of the break, Scott slashed to the bucket and hit the lay-up at the buzzer to seal the Blazer victory.
Lady Statesmen 60, Lady Blazers 45
CLEVELAND, Miss. — Valdosta State kept it close throughout the game with No. 1 Delta State, but in the end, the Lady Blazers fell to 4-4 on the season with a 60-45 loss to the Lady Statesmen.
Brittany Ferguson led the Lady Blazers with 17 points. The Lady Blazers will return home to face Albany State on Friday.
