- A large crowd attended the meeting about the new Biomass plant Thursday at the University Center at Valdosta State University.
Experts from a variety of fields presented the health risks, pollution and water issues, and other concerns involved with the construction of a biomass plant in Valdosta Thursday at the Wiregrass Activists for Clean Energy (WACE) forum held Thursday evening.
Karen Noll, co-founder of WACE, presented a timeline detailing the actions made so far and also presented key facts that are involved with the construction of the biomass plant.
She expressed her frustration with her dealings with local political members and the inability to accomplish anything. The county health department and board of education has been notified of the situation but neither group has commented on the construction.
According to Mrs. Noll, thirty percent of the biomass project will be paid for by grant monies and capital loans. Also, 750,000 gallons of gray water and 50,000 gallons of potable water will be used each day by the incinerator.
“The water issues are not being addressed; especially when we find our area facing water shortages and restrictions,” stated Noll.
