Mary G. E. Barrus

Mary G. E. Barrus, 93, Jasper, FL passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011 after a short illness. The Washington Mills, NY native moved to Jasper in 2005 from south Florida. She retired from the First Presbyterian Church in Binghamton, NY after twenty years and was of Protestant faith.

She is survived by her son Brian E. (Laurel) Barrus, Coral Springs, Fl; daughter Beryl E. (James) Forman, Jasper; two grandsons Brian Foreman and Robert Forman.

Russell Stephen

Pickering

Russell Stephen Pickering, age 68, of White Springs, FL. passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at Haven Hospice following a brief illness. Russell was born in Endicott, New York on June 26, 1942 to the late O. Bruce and Zereta Pickering. He was a resident of Polk County for 32 years and was a retired 911 Operator. Pickering was an Eagle Scout and served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a gifted soloist and loved to sing. Mr. Pickering served on the Board of Trustees and Board of Stewards at Longbranch Congregational Methodist Church. He also served as Chairman of the DRANCC.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Carolyn Lindsey Pickering; three brothers, Fred St. John (Sandi) of Elijay, GA.; Roger Pickering (Linda), Orange Park, FL. and Randy Pickering (Kim), Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.; four sisters, Romaine Haas, Brandon, FL., Rebecca Watson (Gerald), Chicago, IL., Linda Hileman (Jack), Greensboro, NC., Rhonda Ballard, Lakeland, FL.; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Long Branch Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Ogburn officiating.  Entombment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Lake City, FL. Memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice, 6037 West US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL. 32055.

Nina Connie Register

November 4, 1932  –  January 25, 2011

Nina Connie Register, age 78, of Jasper, FL. passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA.  Ms. Register was born November 4, 1932 to the late Ewell and Sarah Hiers Corbett. She retired from the Hamilton County Road Department after almost 25 years and will also be remembered for her days behind the counter at Myra’s helping out on busy days. Ms. Register was a member of Harvest Fellowship Church.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Paul Dedge and Cecil Register. She is survived by one son, Olan Dedge (Sharon), Jasper, FL.; one daughter, Myra Cox (Harry), Jasper, FL.; five sisters, Gladys Davis, Jasper, FL., Mary Tomlinson, Lake Park, GA., Lucille Petty, Jasper, FL., Myrtis Hales, Eustis, FL. and Helen Sears, Lake City, FL.; 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, FL. with Pastor Jerry Thomason officiating. Interment followed at Wayfare Cemetery near Statenville, GA.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, The Diabetes Association or the mission or church of your choice.
