March 10, 2011

Earth received George Ezekiel Fitch, Sr. on March 10, 2011 born of Elizabeth and John Fitch of Macclenny, Florida on March 11, 1939. George was the baby of thirteen. George served his formative years in Wilmington, Delaware, graduating in 1956 from Howard High School. Following high school, George served in the US Army as an engineer-ordnance. Upon discharge, he relocated to New York where he worked for the US Post Office, Astonia Station. In 1962, he married Yvonne Louise Bain. Together they had four children. George attended and graduated from the College Accelerated Program for Police at NYIT. George retired as captain, Department of Corrections at Rikers Island in 1987. In 1991, he relocated to Live Oak, Florida. He became a faithful member of Gethsemane COGIC where he served as a deacon and superintendent of Sunday school for 19 years. George loved working with his hands. He was known for his carpentry work, which can be seen throughout many homes including New York and Gethsemane.

He was a faithful servant of the Lord who loved God’s word and his people. His life was exemplary of the love of Christ even to the fellowship of his suffering. George praised his way into glory the afternoon of March 10, 2011 with uplifted hands, a resounding YES and a final Hallelujah.

George is survived by his wife of 48 years, Yvonne; five children; Moira Washington (Ronald), Lisa Gross (Eric), Regina Bracey (Scott), and George, Jr. (Robin); eleven grandchildren, two (2) great grandchildren; and only surviving sibling, John L. Fitch of Wilmington, DE. He also leaves behind a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.

Surely, we will see him again, when we should all cross the burning sands, moving from this life to eternity–on the other side of Jordan. To God be the Glory. Amen
