Suspect charged in shooting

A suspect has been arrested and formally charged in the Friday night shooting at LeMans Apartments.

Valdosta Police detectives arrested 20-year-old Dominic Heekeen Porter, of Valdosta, Monday for the shooting of 38-year-old Hai Ngo.  

The suspect was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and obstruction of a law enforcement officer, reports stated. The suspect was also said to have an active arrest warrant from Lakeland for violation of probation, according to reports. He is being held in the Lowndes County jail. Additional charges have not been ruled out.

The victim is being treated in a Florida hospital and, as of press time, was said to be in fair condition, reports stated.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, Valdosta Police officers responded to LeMans Apartments at 415 Northside Drive in response to a male having been assaulted, according to reports. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Ngo, who was a resident of the apartment complex. At the time, he was able to communicate with officers.

Lowndes County emergency medical services responded, and the victim was transported to South Georgia Medical Center. He was treated for facial injuries and a gunshot wound to the head, reports stated. The victim was later transported to a hospital in Florida and was initially listed in critical condition, according to reports. The assault is believed to have occurred outside in an area between two apartment buildings in the 400 block of Northside Drive. It is believed that the victim and the suspect were acquainted with each other, reports stated. At this time, police do not rule out the possibility of additional suspects in the incident.
