Plessinger said that Andres Islas, 63, was killed “after being involved in an apparent assault by another inmate.”

That other inmate is Antonio Rosales, 44, who is currently serving life for kidnapping, attempted felony murder and sexual battery on a victim under 12, all offenses from Seminole County originating in 2003, according to the DOC’s website.

Plessinger said she isn’t yet sure if there were any weapons involved and that the homicide occurred in the living area of the main unit of the prison. She said an investigation is ongoing and could only supply limited information. The DOC’s Office of Inspector General is investigating the homicide, she said.

According to the DOC, Rosales was sentenced to life in December 2007.

Islas was sentenced in 1996 and was serving more than 40 years for armed robbery, grand theft, drug possession and aggravated assault, among others.
