LHS impresses at Harmon’s

VALDOSTA — The Lowndes Vikings and Vikettes represented themselves well in their home meet on Saturday.

The Vikettes won the girl’s portion of the Harmon’s Viking-Vikette Invitational at Lowndes High while the Vikings finished second in the boy’s event.

The Vikettes earned 129.33 points to beat out Monroe and Tift County.

Jordan Bright had a big day for the Vikettes, winning the 100 meter hurdles and the triple jump.

Jacki Pinkerton was the Vikettes other winner. She claimed the top spot in the 800 meter run.

Brittany Britt finished second in the 100 meter dash and the long jump. She also helped the 4×100 meter relay team come in second. Her teammates in the event were Danyelle Jones, Kiori Spriggs and Alex Godfrey.

The Vikettes finished in third place in the 4×200 meter and 4×400 meter relays. Jones, Spriggs, Kenyadah Prime and Neisha Adams made up the 4×200 team while Britt, Godfrey, Taylor Nichols and Rachael Smith-Donaldson were on the 4×400 team.

Godfrey was second in the 400 meter run, Prime was third in the 100 meter hurdles, Kayla Russell was second in the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter runs and Allison Peters was third in the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter runs.

The Vikings earned 112.5 points and finished just behind winner Bainbridge which garnered 126 points.

Helping the Vikings finish second was Kenneth Durden. The senior, who is committed to play cornerback at South Florida, finished in the top three in five different events. He won the triple jump, an event he is the defending state AAAAA champion in. He also won the 110 meter hurdles and was third in the 300 meter hurdles.

Durden helped the 4×400 meter relay team finish third. His teammates in the 4×400 were Stacey Young, Eric Wiseman and Lorenzo Walker.

Justin Evans won the 400 meter dash.

Devonte Watts finished second in the 110 meter hurdles behind Durden.

Troy Braswell, a Valdosta State football commit, finish third in the long jump and helped the 4×100 meter relay team finish second. Michael Moore, Carey Stanley and Durden were also on the team.

Lyndon Jones placed third in the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter runs while Juan Gibbs came in fifth and fourth respectively in the events.

Brooks County had a few standouts. Erica Dennard won the girl’s shot put and Yasmine Reynolds finished third in the girl’s 100 meter dash. The Trojans team of Chris Jones, Deric Herring, Damion Cobb and Martavius Brooks won the boy’s 4×200 meter relay.

For Lanier County, Junior Gnonkonde won the boy’s shot put.
