Valdosta State softball player Samantha Posey will appear on ESPN2’s First Take program this morning at 11:40 a.m.

Posey, who is the sister of San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey, made headlines of her own for her performance against Albany State on Monday.

Sam Posey hit for the cycle of home runs in VSU’s doubleheader win over the Golden Rams. She hit a two-run homer in game 1, then followed with three homers in game 2. She had a grand slam, three-run homer and solo homer in the second win.

Several national media outlets, including ESPN and MLB.com, picked up on the story in Tuesday’s edition of the Valdosta Daily Times.

After the wins over Albany State, Posey told the Times she was unaware she hit for the cycle of home runs. When asked if she would tell her brother about the feat, she said she hoped he’d hear about it from someone else first.

“Hopefully he’ll catch wind of my day,” she said. “I know mine won’t be on ESPN, like his would. Hopefully my mom will send him a text or something. He’s been stealing my thunder a bit.”

Now she will be on ESPN. First Take airs from 8-10 a.m. and re-airs from noon-2 p.m. on ESPN2. Mediacom carries ESPN2 on channel 30.
