Harris Sr., Clyde James, age 84 of Lake City, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Lake City V.A. Hospital. He was a native of Plant City, Fla. and moved to the Lake City area in 1986. He is survived by his wife; Bernice McCollum Harris; sons: Clyde Harris, Jr. (Mary) Plant City; Craig Harris, Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughter, Cheryl Harris Abbey (James) of Plant City, Fla.; step-children; William McCollum of Lake City, Fla., Linda Creamer (Calvin) of Lake City, Gary McCollum (Susan) of Jacksonville, Fla., and grandchildren: Abby Stalvey (Mike), Amy Brown (David), Angie Anschultz (Paul), Bradley McCollum, Brian McCollum. Also surviving are nine great grandchildren.

Clyde was a retired school administrator of Live Oak, Fla. He also graduated from Stetson University with honors in 1954, served as Pastor of Mango Baptist Church, and as a science teacher in Live Oak, Fla., was a member of the American Legion Post #57; The Veteran of  foreign Wars Post# 2206; and the  Lake City Moose Lodge # 624. His church membership was at the Southside Baptist Church of Lake City. He was an avid sportsman of hunting and fishing.

Visitation with family and friends will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 at Wells Memorial Funeral Home in Plant City with a funeral service 2 p.m. on Saturday at Wells.  Interment will follow at Mt. Enon Cemetery in Plant City, Fla.

There will be a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. Tuesday May 17  at the First Baptist Church in Lake City, Fla.

John William Pettrey

John William Pettrey Sr., 72, McAlpin, Fla., passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011 after a long illness. The Monroe County, W.V. native moved to  McAlpin in 1974 from Orlando, Fla. Mr. Pettrey worked as a carpenter with his father for several years early in his life. He also drove a log truck and worked as a mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife: Carol Sue Pettrey.

He is survived by his daughter: Peggy S. (Chris) Phillips, McAlpin, Fla.; three sons: John W. (Sadie) Pettrey Jr., McAlpin, Fla., Dennis P. Pettrey, Live Oak, Fla., Kenneth F. (Thelma) Pettrey, McAlpin, Fla.; three sisters: Carol (Scott) Linger, Zellwood, Fla., Mary (Brandon) Cummings, Apopka, Fla., Sue (Wayne) Barringer, Rock Springs, Fla.; three brothers: Jackie O. (Linda) Pettrey, Mayo, Fla., Marshall L. (Kim) Pettrey, McMinnville, Tn., Jerry Wayne (Jeanie) Pettrey, Rock Springs, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Betty Barker Leming

Betty Barker Leming age 74, of Live Oak, Fla. passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Suwannee Health Care in Live Oak, Florida. She was born in Anniston, AL, and moved to Live Oak, Fla. in 1976. Betty worked as a certified nursing assistant and in her spare time enjoyed working in her yard.

She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. C.J. and Era Biddle.

Survivors include one son, Michael Barker, Panama City Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Joy Barker, Fruitland Park, Fla; one step-daughter, Miranda Douglas, Live Oak, Fla.; one brother, James Biddle, Plant City, Fla.; one sister, Teresa Johnson, Liv Oak, Fla.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
