Editor:

I appreciate the questions you raise regarding the Crapps home and Heritage Park.  It is difficult for me to believe this sort of purchase is even being contemplated at this time. The City of Live Oak can’t balance its budget without raising everyone’s water bill.  Why on earth would they consider an expenditure that carries so many unanswered questions.

In case the City Fathers have not noticed, we are in a recession additionally property values have plummeted, hence revenue will also plummet.  Unemployment is incredibly high and could continue to climb.  Unemployment compensation is running out for hundreds of thousands of unemployed folks and our “Leaders” are actually considering spending for this pie in the sky. Of course Mr. Crapps will fund some of it, it is an albatross around his neck so spending some to get rid of a lot makes perfect sense.  If the property was valued to sell private enterprise or private parties would have purchased it.

What we need now more than at any time in my 64 years is belt tightening, serious belt tightening.  Spending on the unnecessary will mean serious problems funding the necessary.
