Rant & Rave – July 22, 2011

Why are people of Live oak griping about planting Palm Trees? They say that they don’t want any in Live Oak. Well, people for your information, like it or not, these trees are already here. My husband and I took a ride through town, Ohio Avenue and Howard St., and counted 185 Palm Trees as far as we could see on both sides of the road. So quit complaining…what if there are a few more…just shut-up about it and enjoy them!!

I’m delighted to see that the Live Oak police are FINALLY stopping speeders. I’ve been waiting years to see this happen! It will definitely slow down the accident rate and the death rate. But I have a suggestion for you police persons: Hide your car back away from the street because I can see you from 6 blocks away and slow down in time to avoid being caught. Then I can speed up when I get out of your range. If you really want to help me slow down, catch me when I’m not looking, give me a ticket that I have to pay my hard-earned money for, and that will make me think twice!

To those who support Suwannee county being dry and are worried about alcoholism, loose morals, and crime…have any of you ever gone inside the big national retail store that shall remain nameless? Every time I’m

in there a lot of the women the way they dress look like they just got off working at a strip joint…the amount of jailhouse tattoos literally blinds me. For a county full of churches which prides itself on wholesome Christian values I find it ironic this area is surrounded by prisons and the arrests each week for alcohol and drug related offenses are mind-blowing with regards to its small population.

Upon reading last week’s Rant-n-Rave regarding the teacher having to contribute 3% towards his fancy retirement, I thought “what a crock.” Let’s see, you are wallowing in the public trough, not contributing a single penny towards a lucrative retirement and are now complaining because the state is requiring YOU to contribute to YOUR retirement. What a joke. News flash! Those of us in the private sector have to contribute 100% towards our retirement. We don’t have the luxury of requiring the citizenry to pay increased taxes and assessments to meet our retirement needs. Get a clue. Hopefully in the near future, your contribution will increase and our contribution on your behalf with decrease. Welcome to reality.

This is regarding the upcoming vote to bring Suwannee County back into the present by lifting the ban on liquor sales. I’ve read the comments from those against it saying that this is not a religious issue and I say that is untrue. Recently, when I told a coworker who is very much against the measure that the Democrat announced we have enough petitions signed to put it to a vote, the first thing he said was “Time to rally up the churches” to vote against it.

If you support this progress, when it comes time to vote, please vote. Make your voice heard because there are a whole lot of people being told every Sunday to vote against it. And unfortunately in our county many of our polling places are in the very churches that are so strongly against this measure.

VOTE SUWANNEE YES!!!!!

This is a small statement from a public employee to any non-public employee who feels that (I contribute to my retirement, so they can to). If I pay into my retirement like most in the private sector, then pay me what I would make in the private sector. $35 phr vs $15 phr. Afford me the ability to strike for better terms.

Public employee’s benefits (Retirement, medical, etc.) are the reason most of us graciously accept our meager pay.

Our Governor, Rick Scott, quoted last week, “I commend Florida’s Law Enforcement Officers for standing strong each day against crime throughout our state. Thanks to them, Florida’s crime rate is at a 40 year low. We must always remember that our Law Enforcement Officers put their lives on the line every day, and we owe them a debt of gratitude”. I totally agree with him and think that maybe the Sheriff should put comments like this once in a while in the Suwannee Democrat thanking his guys for all they do in this county and making them feel more appreciated.

I have lived in Suwannee County for many, many years and have to say that I am truly ashamed to tell others I live here. There will never be any growth in this town because you have the same “people” trying to run it and keep it a quiet little redneck community. I am trying really hard to move my family out of Live Oak so that my children will have many more options and opportunities. I will continue to pray for Live Oak.

That picture for God & Country day says it all for seperation of church & state. 2 females, no blacks or hispanics, bunch of rich old white dudes with all the money & power and they ain’t giving up neither till their dying breath. Regular good old boy convention. That’s  what’s keeping this place stagnant & your paying them big bucks to do it.

Before the ancients understood the naturally occuring process of fermentation it was considered a divine gift allowing storage, transport, trade and nutrition. Prior to refrigeration this was a real blessing in an arid disease ridden land. It also enabled other food stuffs to be cured in wine because of the alcohol content. Beer was quite literally liquid bread. Trichinosis was the very real basis for the ban on swine, so let’s shut down bbq pits. How about greed, pride, & a lust for power? Looks like we pick & choose our sinnin’ round here.

If this county is indeed being investigated, then that’s all the proof I need of God existing. Hope of salvation springs eternal if we can be freed of this terrible political machine. God & Country day looked a lot like a political campaign hosted by a church & with the exception of Mr. Cameron, not one of those people will get a vote from me.

Non-alcoholic sacrament,  it wasn’t wine at all? Then the scripture & my mainstream 1,000+ yr. old faith is wrong? Some lunkhead could say the disciples smoked crack, but that don’t make it gospel! We got that old crook Charlie Wrangel invoking Christ in the debt limit thing, Michelle Bachman’s hubby is peddling miracles to gays & 2 ultra rich mormons are running for president. Any one else see a problem here? Maybe the Pastsfarians (that’s spelled right) got the idea right cause this ain’t what the creator had in mind.  Where does religion become just another powerful addiction & political ploy? Faith is a good thing, this kinda stuff is not.

This is concerning the Jarvis – Hall lawsuit. I would like to know who or what group  complained about Mrs. Hall speaking on the Constitution of the United States. It should be near and dear to everyone in this country. Thank you.

I firmly believe that the “Vote No” people have every right in the world to advertise the fact that they want us to vote No, but they are putting their signs on the public right of ways, which is against the law in the state of Florida. They are on federal highways right of ways, which is against the law, they are on state highways right of ways, which is against the law, and they are on City property, which should be against the law if it isn’t, it should be. You are not supposed to have any political advertising on public property in the state of Florida. But the “Vote No” people seem to put all their signs on public property. Maybe no one wants to give them permission to put them on their private property. Could be. So be it. Bye.

I have  several concerns. Partly, Officer Edwards unfortunately was killed in an accident, on May 21,  an accident. It is an accident that his family is having to deal with very publicly that most families don’t have to do. Most families don’t have to deal with this as a public issue. Officer Edwards fell, a servant to this this community as a law enforcement officer. It is unfair to his loved ones, that the people of this community are using his accident and death as an issue for keeping Suwannee County Dry. That is a personal  situation, whether you buy alcohol or not and now it will be the people’s vote. Let your decision be made by what your family’s believes. But,  please leave the Edwards’ family out of your decision making. His death was an accident. Had he been killed by a shooter, it would have been the shooter that caused his death, not the gun. Thank you.

I use the garbage disposal pickup place on route 51 since the first day it was opened. The present attendant is by far the best every they’ve had. He is timely, neat and organized and the signs say, please, do not dump in certain places, which is much more polite than the grumpy caller last week.

Congratulations and appreciation to the downtown store owners who have restored the fronts of their buildings. It looks great. This citizen appreciates your contribution to the attractiveness of downtown.

2.      Rant

To the Democrat: When I want local/state news, I subscribe to the Democrat (which I do). When I want a Bible study, I go to the church of my choice.  The lengthy Bible exposition by a county official in a recent issue of the Democrat was inappropriate for the newspaper to print!

Thanks to the City Council and the County Commissioners who have provided funding for the Suwannee County Historical Commission to paint the outside of the old train freight station.  The restoration of Old City Hall, the Depot, and the Freight building is a wonderful addition to downtown. It is a testimony to our leaders desire to preserve our historic district.
