Valdosta State sweeps Fort Valley State

Valdosta State’s volleyball team swept Fort Valley State in three sets (25-15, 25-12 and 25-9) on Wednesday night.
The win improves VSU’s record to 12-8 on the season.
Katie Onushko led the Lady Blazers with 10 kills. Tania Tauiliili contributed nine kills, and had an outstanding attacking percentage of .692. Onushko finished with a .471 attacking percentage. Chelsea Logan and Brittany Smith each added six kills.
Ashley Lala had 34 assists on the night, and added six digs. Macy Markham led the team in digs with eight. Onushko added a solo block and two block assists, as well as seven digs. Krista Bradford made six digs.
Valdosta State made seven blocks. In addition to Onushko’s three blocks, Logan and Tauiliili registered two solo blocks each. Destiny Berry and Anna Nichenko each pitched in with a block assist.
Valdosta State’s players combined for 12 aces on Wednesday. Bradford rattled off four aces, while Markham had three. Lala added two, and three other players each notched a service ace for VSU.
This weekend, the Blazers will compete in the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Crossover Tournament in Pensacola, Fla. On Friday, Valdosta State will face Tampa at 10 a.m. and Eckerd at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the Blazers will take on Saint Leo at noon and Lynn at 4 p.m.
