The Valdosta State doubles team of Christian Hansen and Luis Loeffler got off to a strong start at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Thursday morning.

The Blazer pair defeated Texas’ Chris Camillone and David Holiner 8-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Hansen and Loeffler fell behind early as they trailed 2-1 and 3-2 before holding serve and breaking the Longhorn duo to take a lead they would not relinquish.

The Valdosta State lead grew to 6-4 over the next three games before Hansen and Loeffler again broke Camilloe and Holiner to earn the right to serve for the match. The Blazers held their serve to close out the match.

With the victory, Valdosta State advances to meet California’s Chris Konigsfeldt and Nick Andrews, the fourth-seeded team in the Championships. Konigsfeldt and Andrews defeated Ole Miss’ Johan Backstrom and Jonas Lutjen 8-6 on Thursday to advance to the Round of Eight.

Hansen and Loeffler will play again on Friday
