As Valdosta State prepares for the Gulf South Conference Volleyball Tournament, three Blazers claimed All-Gulf South Conference honors.
Valdosta State setter Ashley Lala took home the GSC Freshman of the Year award, as well as All-GSC second team honors.
Joining Lala on the second team were outside hitters Chelsea Logan and Katie Onushko.
Lala made an immediate impact on Valdosta State as a freshman. She ran the Blazers’ offense, and had 9.69 assists per game, good enough for third in the GSC. Despite being the team’s setter, she even had 89 kills and tallied 30 blocks. Lala added 353 digs and 25 service aces to her stat line.
Logan made the All-GSC team for the second time in her career. Last season, she was named to the second team as well. Logan led the Blazers in kills this season with 363.
Onushko was just behind Logan in kills this season with 358, an average of 2.91 per set. She finished just behind Logan in the conference rankings at seventh in kills.
Onushko was also seventh in the GSC in service aces, notching 38 on the season, trailing just Macy Markham (44) on the team. Defensively, Onushko played strong, with 284 digs and 75 blocks.
