Blazer baseball picked to finish fourth in GSC

The Valdosta State baseball team has been selected to finish fourth in the Gulf South Conference standings in a vote of the league coaches, according to an announcement made by the GSC office Friday.

The Blazers received one third place vote, five fourth place votes and one fifth place vote for a total of 28 points in the preseason poll.

Defending Division II and GSC champion West Florida tallied four first place votes, one second and two thirds to tie with North Alabama, which received three firsts, three seconds and one third, for first overall with 44 points. The top two were followed by Delta State, which garnered 40 points with one first place vote, three seconds and three thirds, while West Alabama, which had one second, three fourths, two fifths and one sixth, came in behind VSU with 26 points.

Alabama-Huntsville was sixth with 21 points, followed by West Georgia with 14 and Christian Brothers with seven.

Blazer catcher Christian Glisson, who batted .365 and scored a team-high 43 runs while garnering All-Gulf South Conference honors in 2011, received Preseason All-GSC recognition entering the 2012 year as well.
