Lowndes tennis beats Cook

VALDOSTA —The Lowndes varsity tennis teams each claimed 5-0 victories over Cook High School on Tuesday afternoon. The Lowndes girls won in straight sets, while the  boys’ team won a hard-fought match, which featured two individual matches going into the third sets.

The Lowndes tennis teams will begin region play against crosstown rival Valdosta on Tuesday at Harry B. Anderson Tennis Center (McKey Park).

Lowndes girls soccer ties TCC

THOMASVILLE — The Lowndes girls soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with Thomas County Central Tuesday night.

Hanna Jo Isaacson scored Lowndes’ only goal, coming just 20 seconds into the match when she dribbled down the left side and drilled the ball into the upper right corner of the net. TCC evened the score at 1-1 with a goal in the 25th minute.

Lowndes baseball falls to Thomasville

THOMASVILLE — The Lowndes baseball dropped its second-straight game Tuesday night, falling to Thomasville 3-1. With the loss, the Vikings are now 0-2 on the season. Lowndes will look for win No. 1 on the season Friday night against Hoover (Ala.).

Lowndes boys soccer beats TCC, 5-2

Thomasville — The Lowndes boys soccer team claimed its first victory of the season Tuesday night. The Vikings beat Thomas County Central 5-2 to earn the victory. In the win, Chrsitian Carmarillo scored a hat-trick, claiming three scores in the game. Yuri Guimaraes and Chris Wilmot each scored a goal.

The Vikings led 1-0 after the first half, but quickly fell behind 2-1 in the second half. Lowndes eventually recovered, scoring the final four goals of the contest. Lowndes hosts Coffee Feb. 28.

VSU’s Groves named Pitcher of the Week

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State baseball pitcher Steven Groves was named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week, according to an announcement by the league office. Groves led VSU to its first shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern.

Georgia Christian advances to final four

DASHER — Georgia Christian’s boys basketball team will compete in the GISA Class A semifinals on Thursday in Milledgeville. The Generals will face Dawson Street at 2:30 p.m.

Georgia Christian started the playoffs with a 57-41 win over David Emanuel in the first round. Then Ryan King’s two free throws with 0.3 seconds left gave the Generals a 48-46 victory over Nathaniel Greene in the quarterfinals. Georgia Christian’s girls lost their first round game, 44-38.
