i do not feel that it is fair for teachers to punish well behaved children when one is miss behaving. the teachers take the puppy pals away from the class for one kid being bad . how is it fair for the good kids being kept from going outside . the school needs to find a better way to punish the misbehaving children so the well behave children can still have there outside time

A red light? In a school zone? pfft… That will never work. Idiots cannot seem to drop off their kids unless there is a cop directing traffic. Actually what needs to happen is just rearrange the way the drop off works. Let only the school buses use the front entrance and send all the car riders in the back way. No traffic, No congestion, No worries. But…That just makes too much sense, and I am not real sure the majority of the mindless drones could find it.

Here’s a suggestion for ending the bottleneck-effect nightmare that culminates at the intersection of US 129 and US 90. If the US 129 north and southbound left lanes were BOTH FOR TURNING AND GOING STRAIGHT, traffic would flow more smoothly. DOT could accomplish this simply by allowing only US 129 north or southbound traffic to go at a time. Or they could allow north and southbound traffic to go simultaneously and require that those in left lanes who wish to turn yield to oncoming traffic. It is ridiculous the way US 129 north and southbound right lanes get backed up and the left lanes sit empty. This proposal would help to utilize ALL FOUR LANES. How about the powers that be take a look into whether or not this could be a viable solution?

Is this the mayor that said the job didn’t pay enough & that he didn’t want to put in any additional time to do the job about a year ago? After 36 yrs. of “public service” , the retirement benefits should be far better than most folks get. All this carrying on in both the city & county goverment makes you wonder if it’s a case of rats on a sinking ship.

While the offer of the live oak trees is generous & they should be cherished, there’s a lot more to it. It will cost a considerable amount in labor, watering, and machinery to transplant them. This is a massive undertaking and they have little chance of survival. They simply don’t transplant well, especially at that size & age. Consult an expert before commiting to a project of this scope please!

TO THE SUWANNEE RIVER WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT:

While I am very aware that water is necessary to the farming industry, in fact it is necessary to every aspect of life as we know it. Until our aquifers are refilled, don’t try to blame me and make me cut down on my home use water supply of bathing, washing dishes or watering my lawn (which I do not water my lawn purposely and I am cutting back at home already), but again, don’t make me feel responsible while you are still allowing the farmers and dairies to continue to pull water from our precious little water supplies that are left because you continue to renew their pernits for the money.  They are the main reason our aquifers, lakes and springs are low. Yes, we have not had that much rainfall, but the aquifers started going low and our lakes drying up long before the rainfall stopped coming.  Tiger Lake has been almost dry for many, many years. Even during the last flooding of the river. And I could add many more.  Suwannee Countians, let’s pressure the SRWMD to STOP allowing all our water to be sold!!

On 2/6/12, DMV Live Oak, I stepped off the curb, tripped and fell on my back. Again, a heartfelt thank you to the young man (white truck) and the woman (waiting with her daughter outside)for their quick response in helping me up and talking with me til I was ready to continue. I appreciate your kindness!

Well, it appears the state’s Water Management Districts are trying to pull the wool over our eyes again.  The now state-wide implementation of the Florida Water Starsm  initiative is simply an attempt to divert the real issues that are causing the water shortage and their lack of initiatives which would/could restore our springs.

My job requires me to work with several Chambers of Commerce. The Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce stands high above them all. They do a tremendous amount to promote local business and are an asset to our community. Susan is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and has always been extremely helpful and informative.

I would like to commend Don Quincey, Chairman of the Suwannee River Water Management District Board and all of the members of the Board for looking out for the people of this region and our resources. You have made some tough decisions, but you are on the right track. Keep up the good work!

I just finished reading the Suwannee Democrat that was delivered today, Feb. 15th. I was at once saddened then angered by the death of 23 year-old Brian Adams from Branford. His death was caused by two individuals who were not concerned in the least that they had just taken an innocent life. That prompted me to read the arrest record and found that there were five arrests having to do with suspended, invalid, or expired driver’s licenses. There must be a way to track citizens who do not have valid driver’s licenses and keep them off the roads. I know the Deputies are busy sitting by the side of the roads talking to each other, so, obviously, they can’t be bothered to watch traffic. I stand at the school bus stop every morning and evening in O’Brien and see the speeders who pass on highway 129. They go so fast, it’s impossible to get the license numbers, or I certainly would. There has to be a way to stop this senseless killing of our citizens by those who think they don’t have to obey the laws that everyone else does. Does anyone have the answer?

A concerned citizen.

To the SRWMD:  You don’t have to predict the groundwater might be short in 20-years as you stated in Wednesday’s Suwannee Democrat, page 5A; the groundwater is ‘short’ now, and has been ever since our springs have run dry.  The immediate question is, “When is the SRWMD going to take corrective actions?”

Why does our Legislators feel they need to limit the number of liquor licenses within Suwannee County?  Where is the ‘free market’ and competition?  Why can’t people open and run ANY legitimate business without the holier-than-thou-government-knows-best Legislators getting involved?????
