“I’m really short and my age it just surprises them that I am racing. I am the youngest, everyone else is in their 30s,” Devin Walker said. “Racing is what I want to do when I get older.”

Walker, 15, of Mayo, said he loves racing. Last weekend he participated in the Winter nationals at Bubba Raceway Park, in Ocala, Feb. 16-18. Winter nationals is three nights of racing. Improving each night by four places, Walker finished ninth on Feb. 16, then in fifth place on Feb. 17 and on Feb. 18, the last night of racing, he won his race.

Walker’s first year racing sponsor and World of Outlaws driver Danny Lasoski also raced at Winter nationals, but in the 410 Sprints division. He said Lasoski has been helping him ever since he started sponsoring him.

“It was pretty cool that we both placed fifth on Friday night and then won our races on Saturday night,” Walker said.

This was Walker’s first win in the Hobby Stock division. His car has 450hps more than the gladiator he drove in past seasons. Racing seems to be in his blood, since his dad has been racing for the last 10 or 11 years Walker said, and he has only missed one of his dad’s races.

“He gives racing tips with the cars. He’s pretty much my mentor,” Walker said. “He has won a lot of races and I know he would not lie to me.”

This coming up season he’s had two different car owners come to him and ask him if he would drive for them. Kerry O’Steen is the owner of the #6 Limited Modified. The other offer is from Turner Fear Racing, Jeff Fear and Jody Turner, they own the Limited Late Model. This year Devin will be in all three classes.

Walker’s sponsors are Danny Lasoski, O’Neal Construction, ASW Performance, Honeycutt Auto Mart, North Florida Animal Rescue, Mayo Auto Parts, Byrd’s Power Equipment, Willco Graphics, D1RT, Mayo Fertilizer, B&B Auto, Walker Farms, JDB Motorsports, Henderson Lawn Care, Durden Motorsports and Suwannee Salvage.

The season opener is March 3, 2012, at North Florida Speedway, in Lake City and Devin will be driving his Hobby and the Turner Fear Limited Late Model.
